Welcome to the Early Childhood Education Page for Pickaway County. The information on this website is intended for parents and professionals in Pickaway County who reside in the Teays Valley, Logan Elm, Circleville or Westfall School districts.




Children with special needs, as determined by a multi-factored evaluation, are eligible for services provided by their local school district. Below is a list of services offered. Services will vary from child-to-child based on educational needs as determined by the evaluation.


If a child is suspected to have a disability, a multi-factored evaluation is completed. The evaluation consists of observations, interview, standardized and criterion referenced assessments. The evaluation is completed by a team of professionals including a school psychologist, teacher and related service professionals (speech , occupational and physical therapist). Each school district houses preschool classroom(s) that operate 4 or 5 days a week. Classrooms are taught by preschool intervention specialist and an educational aide. A trans-disciplinary team approach provides high quality programming and services designed to meet the needs of the whole child. In all of our service areas, the focus is on meeting the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of each child. If determined to be a need Occupational, Physical or Speech therapy are offered to help to child meet their educational goals. Children without special needs are also enrolled in these classrooms.


Special needs classrooms also enroll 4-8 typically developing peers. Typically developing peers models skills for children with special needs in the classroom environment. Peer models are 4 by August 1st. Cost is $75.00 per month. Discounts are available for eligible families. Call by the end of February for the following school year (Angie or Tami-740-474-7529). Programs in Westfall, Teays Valley and Logan Elm.


Early Childhood special educators provide support services to children with disabilities in Head Start, home, preschool, or child care centers. Itinerant services are offer so preschoolers with special needs may remain in community settings and benefit from inclusion with typically developing peers.


Preschool Programs offered to children of income eligible families and children with special needs. Families at the 200 percent poverty level (family of four that makes less than $44,100) are eligible. Programs are located at Salt Creek elementary, Westfall elementary (Angie or Tami-740-474-7529) and Mound Street Elementary (740-474-4340 Bobbi)


The Pickaway County DD program offers a preschool program operates a preschool classroom for children with severe – profound needs that cannot be met in the regular school building. They also accept typically developing peers (typical peers inquiry-474-1124- Lori). Special needs placements re-completed through the IEP Process.


This program serves income eligible 3-5 year old children in half-day classrooms who are at the 100 percent federal poverty level. Head Start is a federally funded program that provides comprehensive services and emphasizes parent involvement. For more information about this program call: 740-474-7529
